Acorn Woodpecker
I went into the Santa Rita mountains to Madera Canyon. It's in a section of the Coronado National Forest. There I spotted an Acorn Woodpecker. I love these birds and always have an eye out for them when I'm there. I believe this is a male.
Everything you wanted to know about these clown-faced birds.
I'm going to make time to visit more this week. It's less than 17 miles from my house. I really enjoy it there and am able to relax. There's something peaceful about getting out of my usual environment and sitting in the (mostly) pine forest.
Madera Canyon trivia: There are eight different kinds of oak trees in Arizona. It's the only place in the state where all eight can be found and seen at one overlook.
