Waiting for the Concert
Today was the first concert of the 2016-2017 concert season of the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra. We are very lucky to have such a first rate orchestra here in Bellingham. They attract world class soloists and sound like they belong in a bigger city than this one. And almost all of the players are volunteers. The quality of their music making is inspiring. Today was an all Tchaikovsky program. The first half was the violin concerto played by a very young and amazing violinist named Simone Porter. All I can say is, "Wow!" Her performance was brilliant and beautiful. The second half the orchestra played the Symphony #4. I preferred the concerto but the whole concert was delightful.
Afterwards we met our friends Allen and Susan for dinner at the Wanita Thai Restaurant. We ate yummy food, talked a lot and had a great time with these wonderful friends. We met them last year when we discovered we were traveling on the same Grand Circle Cruise. We've been fast friends ever since.
