The Beard
After spending an inordinate amount of time trying to capture a hovering hoverfly, I have had to accept that my camera, and this photographer, are not going to achieve a desirable outcome. So I must abandon this dream - for now. As I walked back into the house, I glanced down at my Bearded Iris by the door and, with my mind still in macro mode, I took in the amazing structure of the tiny beard on this flower. The variety of ways that exist to ensure the pollination of various plants and flowers never ceases to amaze me. So many diverse structures, each complex and fascinating. My extra is of a quite static hoverfly. I am pleased enough with it, but disappointed, just the same.
