Marwick Head
The magnificent cliffs at Marwick Head. In the rocks at the top of the cliffs you can find fossils of fish. When they were laid down the ancestors of birds flying around had yet to crawl out of the sea! It all makes me feel utterly insignificant, even more than usual! The tower, erected in 1926, commemorates the sinking of HMS Hampshire and the death of Lord Kitchener in 1916 whilst en route to Russia. There were only 12 survivors. This year, at long last, a commemorative wall with the names of the other 737 men who died has been erected at the base of the tower.
