North Coast 500 - Day 4: Ullapool to Gairloch
Meandered along the Wester Ross coastline from Ullapool to Gairloch today; not a large distance but plenty of places to stop off en route.
After a wander along the shore of Loch Broom at Ullapool, our first stop was at the impressive Corrieshalloch Gorge National Nature Reserve. A Victorian suspension bridge across the gorge carries you above the 150ft high Falls of Measach - stunning!
Then a couple of beaches; first at Little Gruinard overlooking Gruinard Island, then detouring up to the outstanding beach at Mellon Udrigle, which overlooks the Summer Isles, and beyond those to views of the peaks of Suilven and Stac Pollaidh. One of the most stunning beach views I think I've ever seen.
Continuing down towards Poolewe, we stopped in at Inverewe Gardens. Probably best seen when everything is in full bloom, it was still definitely worthwhile seeing it in its autumn colours.
And finally into Gairloch, in time for a beautiful sunset.
