London 2012 Day 8

So much going on that I've got the TV down from our bedroom now - that's three TVs now and a couple of laptops, mmmm obsessive? Yeah, you bet!!

In rowing gold for Katherine Copeland and Sophie Hosking, in the lightweight double sculls for Great Britain. Sophie's expression after they crossed the line was priceless and another gold for Great Britain in the men's coxless four for of Triggs Hodge, Pete Reed, Tom James and Alex Gregory who held off Australia in a thrilling race. Britain's men's lightweight double sculls pair of Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter had an interesting final. First Zac Purchase's seat broke underneath him and the race was restarted, then the Britons, who were gold medallists four years ago in Beijing, held the lead for most of the race but were edged into silver after a hard-fought battle in the last quarter by Denmark's Rasmus Quist and Mads Rasmussen.

Andy Murray's rest day before meeting Roger Federer in the final was spent winning the mixed doubles quarter-final and semi-final with Laura Robson to guarantee them at least a silver medal. I actually believe he enjoyed himself today and it could well be the perfect preparation.

Another world record and gold for Great Britain in the velodrome with the women's team pursuit trio of Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell .

In the athletics stadium, Jess Ennis continued with a solid Long Jump, a solid Javelin, by which time the gold was all but wrapped up, but that didn't stop her producing a great 800m and winning her heat in style. Well done Jess, loads of pressure being "the face of the games", but she delivered in true style.

Perhaps taking inspiration from Jess's performance and definitely taking inspiration from the home support Greg Rutherford long jumped out to 8.31m for another gold for Great Britain. Chris Tomlinson although close to a medal winning distance with 8.07m finished sixth.

So when Mo Farah steps onto the track for the 10,000m you're wondering can Britain get three gold medals in one athletics session, something they've never done before? No problem! Great run Mo and great to see your training partner Galen Rupp come in second for a silver for USA.

Finally it's pointless to compare different athletes across different eras and different sports, but nonetheless Michael Phelps has finished his Olympic career with a victory in the 4x100m medley relay earning him an 18th gold medal and taking his medal total to 22 - that makes him a fairly okay swimmer in my book.
