Lepidodendron Stigmaria
Following a previous find a few years ago, we returned to the coal mine spoil heaps near Ormiston for a rummage about. After only a few minutes, AB#2 pulled this one from the ground.
"Is this one Dad?" she asked.
Yes it was. This is a 300my old fossilised piece of root from a tree that grew in a swampy tropical environment when Scotland was on an equatorial passage.
