Red Squirrel

Leaving Liverpool, we worked out way up the coast.  Our first stop was at Crosby, where we walked on the beach around the Anthony Gormley "Another Place" statues.  From there we moved up to Formby where we had another beach walk and also walked through a wood where there were red squirrels - we saw two different ones.  We then continued through to Southport where we walked on the pier (until it closed) then took photos of the sunset.

What we learned today:
* The pier at Southport is the second longest in the UK, though it does seem to start quite a long way inland. Isn't that cheating?
* There are 250-300 red squirrels in the area around Formby.
* The Another Place statues are all numbered, and are usually sunk into the sand to different heights.
* The RNLI are on standby to help the unwary who get caught up in the statues and caught out by the tide.
* Southport has a lawnmower museum.
