Lake Alqueda
Spent the Night at a beautiful peaceful bed and breakfast on this lake. Fascinating history involving the town of Luz which used to exist beyond this old dead tree base under the water that is now the lake. A dam further up the river was constructed to create the largest artificial lake in Europe, but unfortunately it would involve drowning the entire town of Luz. So, the town was rebuilt just a couple of miles away above the level of the new lake, and as a consequence we were able to canoe above the site of the old town tomorrow.
This photo shows some of the impact on the trees that once thrived in this valley. We were able to walk down here from the B&B and enjoy the peace and calm. Later went out for a great meal at Monzarat which is perched high on a nearby hill. Many beautiful photos again, difficult to choose so I added an extra of the 3 wise monkeys in Murao!
