Boys Like To Eat

Thank you so much for your stars, hearts and comments on yesterday's young deer!

His Royal Redship and the Missus brought their youngsters to my feeders for the first time the other day. It was a lovely to see them as a family, hopping around under the safety of my dogwood tree.

I heard the familar cheetering of the juvenile cardinals this morning and happened to look out the back door to see mom and the boys at my steps even though my cats Alex and Trio, were lounging on the porch. The loudest one kept at it but mom gave him a sidelong look then hopped passed him to attend to the other. No matter, the dismissed one practiced his skills on an empty sunflower hull a few moments later.

The littler one still follows after mom and waits, his wings shaking with excitement as he chees for his food. When she flies away, they both zoom like rockets after her. I love watching them.

I have to update a bit since I first thought they were juvenile females but after doing a bit of research it seems that they're males because their beaks have less reddish coloration.

It's raining on and off and quite humid again, so it's a good time to clean the house although I'd much prefer to be sitting in a field! Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!
