Eze like Saturday morning
We did a good deed for the day at the station on the way to Eze from Nice when flummoxed travellers approaching their twilight years couldn't figure out the ticketing system. A Level French came in handy.
Flummoxed American lady to Hannah (FAltH): 'your husband is so wonderful'
Han: 'oh we're not married, we're just friends'
FAltH: 'well he's a keeper'
<various feeble attempts at understanding train logistics>
FAl: 'so where are you from?'
Me: 'the UK'
FAl: 'oh yeah, your girlfriend said that'
The gorgeous old medieval hilltop town of Eze was stunning. Possibly one of the most picturesque places I've seen. I hadn't realised the Côte d'Azur wasn't all sweeping beaches and quaffing cocktails on the sun decks of yachts, so this was a very pleasant surprise.
Back in Nice for late afternoon and we saw the very moving memorial to the victims of the July truck attack. It's almost incomprehensible to remember that about 500 people were killed or injured in that event. The sheer scale of damage that was wrought in that single act is staggering and terrifying.
