Caerleon Amphitheatre
"Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking."
Marcus Aurelius
A day for getting out and about, sunny intervals with some cloud to give interest and texture to the uniform blue skies.
A recce trip to Carerleon to find places for a group photo, accompanied by K. We begin at the roman amphitheatre, where the information board reminds us just how big the roman settlement here was back in 75 AD. This is reinforced in the Roman Legionary museum a short walk away, and the baths nearby. It was big.
For lunch we head to Ffwrwm, the little cul-de-sc with coffee shop and arts and crafts shops. It's also full of wood carvings and larger timber sculptures with a distinctly Celtic flavour. Just the place to pass an hour or two and let the history of the place seep into your bones.
