Cruising Along the Huangpu.
We spent the morning in the old part of Shanghai - visiting a Ming-style garden, which promised 'jade rock, goldfish-filled ponds and stunning, tranquil pavilions'. And all of that was true, apart from the word 'tranquil'. We have chosen the week of the Chinese National Holidays to visit, and everywhere was heaving! We soon learned to push and shove along with the best of them.
We wandered round a market, then took the lift to the top of a very tall building to admire the view - unfortunately invisible amidst the smog.
After dinner, we embarked on a river boat and sailed along the Huangpu River, admiring the new skyscrapers of Pudong, and the stately early 20th Century banking halls of the Bund (extra). The light show is not specially for the Holidays - this is normal, everyday Shanghai!
