Nature morte

When S, our borrowed French 16-year-old, stayed with us in July she asked why I had a vase of dead roses on the table. I told her that I like watching flowers change as they dry and that the final shapes can be very lovely. On the day she left, she brought me a bunch of fresh flowers. She'd gone to the florist to ask for flowers that would look good when they died.

She's back with us again so today I showed her her flowers. And retrieved what was going to be a blipless day as I've been asleep for almost all of it.
