Thatching detail.

We count ourselves lucky to live in a beautiful little village. It is thought to have its origins in Saxon times and its name “dung brook”. At the Survey of 1086 eight proprietors of land are named as having holdings here. We count amongst our recent residents, Hugh Laurie OBE.

It’s not surprising that we have a great mix of houses, many of them quite old and thatched. One of the thatched houses in the middle of the village recently had its thatching completely renewed and as it sits at the cross roads in the middle of the village, it caused quite a traffic jam for some 6 weeks as it needed traffic lights to allow room for scaffolding etc. Today’s blip is a small detail on the ridge of the roof in the shape of a cat (I think). The previous roof had a pheasant.
