The 'Rediffusion' Office, Harrison Gardens
While cycling home last night I notice the corner block of Harrison Gardens and Ogilvie Terrace has had the harling stripped away. I had guessed that this had been a shop before being converted. Looking at the shop signs, it was two shops, a Radio Engineers at No. 13 and a Grocery shop at No. 15
I tried to do some research. I know Henniker and Kerr were radio pioneers along with Marconi. However I don't know if the Henniker and Kerr on the shop sign here are the same. It dates back to about the 1920's. The grocery corner shop at 15 Harrison Gardens is also a mystery. No old photos or details found on the internet.
However, I did find out that this shop used to be a Rediffusion shop. A connection with the Radio Engineers. That is detailed here: http://www.rediffusion.info/Edinburgh/. The premises were used as an office until it became too cramped, and the office moved to Longstone sometime in the 1970s.
