Xώρα Σψακιων and Αράδαινα
Sunday and after a coffee and some coconut chocolate balls we headed to the southwest coast to Hora Sfakion across the Cretan hills. A busy family day with many on the road visiting. Goats abounded and Z did some goat whispering as she spent a lot of her youth tending goats on Cape Clear. A challenging pitta for lunch and then over through the winding zigzag road in spectacular scenery to Aradena gorge and the ruined village there. Bullet riddled roadsigns abound from the local hunters. A few houses are occupied in the village. A big family gathering was going on amid the ruins as we passed. It would have been intrusive to try and photograph. A wobbly bridge over the gorge. Local driving across grinning as the wooden slats rattled under your feet. A local run, the Vertical Run they call it, was on in the mountain. No idea how they do it. I was under pressure in the car :) One photo in the set has a 'where's wally' feel if you have time to kill. There is one walker and (at least) three goats in it!
A few here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/michaelplaice/sets/72157675528663836
