Spike Island

After the morning tasks, had a chance to head out to Spike Island. Fantastic layered history - there is an alternative photo of prison mattresses being loaded into skips and taken off the island from the 1985-2004 use just beside the quay bringing tourists on for the tours.

This shot shows on the right the 'Burnt block', burnt down in a prisoners' riot just a few months after the modern prison opened in 1985.

Well worth a visit, if you're in Cobh (which was also looking great today)
