Mr Chair

I see him big-faced
and smiling,
benign and Buddha-like
in the acceptance
that his role
is to be put upon
and sat upon
rather than to be the one
who does
the putting upon
and the sitting upon.

Though when I sink
into him
I think I hear
Mr Chair
emit
the slightest of groans
and then a hiss
as, from deep within,
he expels air.
