Anywhen
"Anywhen" by Philippe Parreno is currently installed in the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern. It's an automaton that combines algorithmic generated sound and moving panels all controlled by a bioreactor full of microbes. (See extra photos.)
The deep, booming soundscape and panel configurations change from minute to minute and hour to hour. The Tate have laid out a carpet and visitors are encouraged to lay under the panels and watch as they reconfigure themselves. At the sloping end of the hall the kids had taken over the carpet and were using it as a hill to roll down. Truly a living piece of art.
