Roost Hole

To the East of Horsham the road meanders through St Leonards forest, past several of the hammer ponds left over from when the area was a hive of activity mining iron ore in the C15. In some cases such as Hammer pond, Hawkins pond and Slaugham pond the road actually goes over the 'dam' at the head of the pond built up across a river to provide a head of water to work the trip hammers and water mills.
However at Roost Hole the road passes along the tail end of the pond where the river feeding it flows in, and this area is beautiful this time of year with beech trees changing from green to yellow and copper.
As you can see from this shot, this road is just wonderful to drive down especially in Autumn and Spring.
