Beautiful Again

A team of 5 of us met up at a very moody looking Haweswater today to go do a good deed. It should have been six but young Mountain Leader Kirsty went up the wrong hill.....

The mess was as bad as I remembered - but it only took us 3 hours to clear the site - the haul included another three tents (one filled with bags and thrown off a small cliff), a duvet, half a dozen chairs, a saw (necessary for cutting down trees, grrr), a whole off-licence of bottles, make up containers, a tarpaulin, various pots and pans, cutlery, crockery, gas canisters and a host of other assorted debris. We also dismantled two wooden shelters and three firepits - we were able to use a discarded shovel to disperse the ash and break up the soil - hopefully nature will reclaim whats been damaged quickly enough.

Mid clear up we stopped for coffee and I wandered to the edge of the wood and sat on a fallen tree and reconnected with nature - a view like this makes it all worthwhile.
