Tranquil seasons
Took a walk down by the River Test today where the flowing water and changing shades of the trees show off autumn at its best.
You could almost take joy that the changing seasons leave summer behind. Well, almost!
Truth is that each season of the year brings its own special joys. I well remember at the beginning of the year taking delight at snowdrops appearing in the garden. And so with each successive first sighting through the year — evening listening out for the first sound of a cuckoo.
So the Test, one of the south's most celebrated chalk streams favoured for its trout, and those with fishing rights on the banks of the river, presents a fine riverscape at any time of year.
But today, with a gentle hint of autumn hues, it's my favourite.
