Time Flies
Remember this quaint village church in Hampshire which figures hugely in my life. It is St Leonard’s, the parish church of Bursledon close to the Hamble River, and is where Jill and I tied the knot 41 years ago today.
Forty-one? Is it really? But then time flies.
I can still recall most of that day which we spent with friends who helped us with preparations, accompanied us at the marriage ceremony and with whom we were fortunate enough to enjoy some precious time with after our time at the church.
At the time we lived close by and were regulars at the church although it was not too long before we moved away, and so tended to lose contact with St Leonards.
But I do recall it had a long history and though it was largely remodelled in the 19th century, apparently its records go back to its formation in the twelth century by a French Order of monks who in turn founded a priory at Hamble.
We did not strictly live in the parish of Bursledon at the time, although the other side of the road was within the parish.
I do remember leaving the following morning for the airport at Heathrow quite early to catch a flight to the South of France . . . alone. I was heading there on duty, to drive and appraise a new car about to come to our shores. My wife joined me a couple of days later, and we had a honeymoon driving back through France at leisure.
Forty-one years ago!!
