Daylight saving

Putting the clocks back one hour doesn't save any light for me. I had to go out at 4.30 in the afternoon to get this instead of 5.30. Who tells the seagulls it's an hour earlier than usual?

I see the onset of winter time has meant the return of an oil rig to our waters, is this becoming another strange ritual I wonder?
