Polytrichum commune
... which you will, of course, better know as the common haircap moss.
I've been given the very good advice to take time to breathe occasionally. I put this into practice today and succeeded in releasing my inner botanist. There are vast colonies of this moss in places on the moor but once I stopped to register its extraordinary stellar beauty it became very difficult to continue to walk over it. I found a whole universe of little stars under my feet, countless millions of them!
