Jack O'Lantern

I am not a huge fan of Halloween, but I do like the pumpkin carving.  I had look on google about Jack O' Lantern and is seems the modern tradition is a far cry from the original Jack O’Lantern of the Irish myth, which were quite terrifying.
They were carved from turnips or beets rather than  orange pumpkins, and were intended to ward off unwanted visitors!

According to Irish folklore, a man called Jack O’Lantern was sentenced to roam the earth for eternity. A ghostly figure of the night, O’Lantern walks with a burning coal inside of a carved-out turnip to light his way.
This Jack O'Lantern lives on my Halloween/Autumn Trollbead bracelet along with the Moon gazing hare, dragon, elf, owl, spider and frogs plus a host of beautiful glass beads.
