Eating a gannet...
Today we got to try 'guga' a traditional dish from Ness in Lewis that we were kindly given on our field trip last week.
The guga hunters traditionally go to an island for 10 days each year to catch gannets which they then bring back for the locals. Originally done out of starvation it's become a part of their heritage.
It was a salty, fishy, fowly affair and not as bad as the aroma had led us to believe. A privilege to be allowed to try.
