Edfest Day Four: Lionel Richie
So here it is, Wednesday, and our view over Edinburgh for what is officially the highest show at the Fringe (no, not in that way).
The day started a bit earlier with a trip to the Half-Price Hut but then we started our wander up Arthur's Seat to catch 'This Arthur's Seat belongs to Lionel Richie' - a free show run by comedian Lionel Richie (formerly Barry Ferns, he had to change his name to be legally allowed to do the shows!). A little 15 minutes bit of stand-up, he didn't do much more than engage with the crowd and swap a bit of banter and offer information about Arthur's Seat - but after a nice walk up and on a glorious day it was pretty much all we wanted. After the show we also got to chat with him and yes, there are photos of a few of us with Lionel Richie :-D
The rest of the day saw us visit Daniel Sloss at the EICC (he was hilarious, even with his hair cut!), 'The Girl with No Heart' at the Bedlam Theatre - one of my favourite venues ('The Improverts' are there as well) as they always feature really good companies (both human and puppetry) and this fairly heartbreaking tale was no exception. We also got to see the 'Best of Scottish Comedian of the Year' - although it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been due to a rowdy stag party - at least the compere and the Aussie guy managed to reign them in but the other two comics were quite poor (and one was the headline act) - choose carefully, even if it is half price.
Picks of the day were the show atop Arthur's Seat and the Seat itself, with 'The Girl with No Heart' just off the top spot as it didn't leave me feeling better - but then good drama often doesn't.
