St Peter's, Church, St George's, Bermuda
The oldest surviving Anglican Church in continuous use outside the British Isles is to be found in St George's Town, itself the oldest surviving English settlement in the New World.
St George's was settled by the Virginia Company in 1612, when Jamestown was a mere fort in Virginia. St John's Newfoundland is unable to prove a 16th Century foundation.
The Church was established immediately after the founding of the St George's settlement, although the original building was destroyed. The Church has been rebuilt several times but the oldest parts date from 1620.
Inside the church has exposed Bermuda cedar beams, with many plaques upon the walls commemorating Bermudian notables.
2012 marks the 400th year since the founding of St Peter's and is also of course the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who this year granted St Peter's the title of "Their Majesties' Chappell".
