Lunch For One
Whenever the sun comes out scores of young lynx spiders arrange themselves on prominent leaves, waiting for a meal to happen by. I found this half-grown female that had captured a fly bigger than herself. As I watched a male lynx slid from under another leaf and slowly sidled around her, occasionally reaching a leg out in a gesture of friendship- what else? There was enough there for two. But she just stood there, watching him and not moving. Eventually he gave up and went back to his own leaf.
