Jungle Jim's
Friday
This is the entrance to Jungle Jim's International Food Market over in Fairfield, a suburb to the north-west of Cincinnati, where I go from time to time to get some English foods, and French cheeses among other things. At this time of year in particular, it is where I go to get ground almonds, or almond flour as they call it here, to make my marzipan for the Christmas cake. The store was founded in 1974 by "Jungle" Jim Bonaminio as a small produce stand, and has grown to over 6½ acres of floorspace! Jungle Jim's caters to the local, regional and international market, and is noted for having one of the largest wine collections in the United States, live seafood tanks, and items from over sixty countries. Many of the specialty foods in the store's Asian and European departments are difficult to find elsewhere in the Greater Cincinnati area, and customers are known to drive from other cities, and even states, for the store's wide variety of foods and unique shopping experience. We do have a World Market closer by, where I can get some things, but going to Jungle Jim's is a whole different experience. The only problem is if you're not careful, you can spend way too much money!!
This evening, Roger and I went to his works party at the home of one of his colleagues. They certainly know how to throw a party, with food catered by a Mexican restaurant, and plenty of drinks. So we came away, well "fed and watered"!!
