Hosta flowers

Who knew Hostas had flowers ? I've never seen them before, Hostas have always been to me just masses of huge leaves in clumps more often than not sporting great slug bites. But this summer my parents garden is full of these pretty mauve flowers, they obviously thrive on lots of rain and being nearly flooded out when the nearby river burst it's banks !
