Birnam Sycamore

The Birnam Sycamore’s large buttress roots and the girth of its trunk, measuring 25 feet, suggest that this tree is a similar age as its famous neighbour - the 'Birnam Oak'. However it is only around 300 years old. The Oak is a living relic of the medieval Birnam Forest that once grew along the banks of the Tay. It is immortalised in Shakespeare’s play ‘Macbeth - “Macbeth shall never vanquish’d be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him." The 2nd picture is the Birnam Oak. The third is the Birnam Walk along the Tay on a beech trees stretch as the leaves turn to gold.
