Usually our bird feeder is overrun with house finches. It was a pleasant surprise today to see both a nuthatch and a downy woodpecker come to visit. The nuthatch swooped in, scared off all the finches, grabbed a peanut and left in a flash. The downy waited patiently beneath the feeder until there was room for her.
