Vanity Unfair

I watched a TV programme on Still Life painting yesterday, and found out that a Vanitas (Latin, of course, for vanity) is a Still Life where everything in the Bowl is not lovely. It brings a sense, not just of 'vanity of vanities' saith the Preacher, but of the frailty of everything in this world, day by day. 'Hold on to that which lasts for Eternal Life' it might say…
