Why did I come in here?

Dhoby

JK Rowling called Harry's House-Elf 'Dobby.'

Dhoby (Doe-Bee) is always considered as an old Indian word for laundry. In fact it comes from old Singapore where the Dhoby Ghaut railway station was home to the riverwashers. Bootnecks and Matelots always refer to laundry as Dhoby, a continuation of a 'slanguage' that confuses those who live in the outside world - civvies!

After my Grandsprog's rugby training last week I found a pile of last years team shirts in the container, mostly just thrown in after the final game. After a quick confab with the chief coach I took them home and spent Friday doing wash after wash.

We now have 40 clean shirts ready for sale at a few quid each which will be ideal as training kit and will provide revenue for the club. Now....what will be my next cunning plan. I had thought of selling Virgins but Cornwall is a desert! :-)

Extra, a tiny shard of flint found in the garden. Created in a maelstrom it has travelled and spent millenia beneath various layers of rock and sediment, suddenly finding itself on a napkin beneath a modern device. The stories it could tell.
