Downing College Chapel.
The main college buildings were Founded in 1800, and designed by William Wilkins, in Neo-Classical style, through a bequest made by Sir George Downing, 3rd Baronet. It is set amid 20 acres of lawns and trees in the centre of Cambridge. The chapel was constructed in 1951 by A.R.Scott, in the same style, and built of Ketton stone which gives it a lovely glow. The main entrance is in Regent street and as I came out of the hairdresser's, nearby, the sun came out, so I popped in for today's picture. The college is known as, "The newest of the old and the oldest of the new."
