Beauty or Beast?

The British Orchid Council have been having their Biennial Congress just up the road from us this weekend.  I met up with a couple of friends who were over from Shropshire to take part.  A fantastic display of these remarkable flowers was on offer.  I took a conscious decision many years ago not to start growing these plants, I could see them becoming a dangerous obsession!  (I did end up growing too many crocuses but at least they are fairly self-sufficient outside .)

Never sure if orchid flowers are beauty or beast.  They are remarkably colourful but so often also slightly grotesque.  What do you think?
