Slains Castle
It was great to see the sunshine again today, so I headed up to Cruden Bay.
An intriguing small Viking Ship has been built on the shore to celebrate 1000 years since the viking Canute tried to conquer the NE of Scotland but he was beaten by Malcolm. I thought about blipping it but it was a bit windy and I couldn't quite get the image I wanted. The ship is set on fire on Saturday.
Along the cliffs to the North of the village I walked to the ruins of New Slains Castle.
Bram Stoker was staying in a local hotel in Cruden Bay when he heard of Slains Castle - which he saw as 'the castle of the dead'. It may have helped to inspire his writing of the novel, Dracula.
It certainly worth a visit and when a heavy sea is running it's pretty dramatic.
