Perseid Nocturne

Tonight was to be a trip to the Mills Obervatory, Dundee to view the Perseid Nocturne. During the night of 12 August earth passed through the belt of meteors that forms part of our solar system. As these small particles of space rock encounter the outer reaches of our atmosphere they flare briefly, leaving a momentary trail of burning debris across the sky. These shooting stars are named the Perseids, a term from Greek Mythology, because they appear to originate from the constellation of Perseus.
There was also an opportunity to see a series of dance and art installations performed in near darkness, which is just as well as cloud cover meant that there was nothing to see!
