Enviable Home
I enjoy walking to work. I process some thoughts to prepare me for the day ahead, listen to something uplifting and / or just enjoy the sun, air and motion. Today, midway, I decided that there simply must be a shorter route than the most obvious one. I whip out Google's Maps and explore paths, and I find it: an unmarked side gate that's much nearer to home.
Opposite the gate was this really lovely lawn. I stood there thinking how lovely it must be to open your doors to this sprawling carpet.
Owning property in Malaysia is suddenly so difficult. I've been casually looking around and realised that all the properties that I'd be interested in are far out of my reach. (Also probably because they're no less than 7 floors up.) There'll come a time for me to move out of my current living standards, and I'll have to be an adult about it, I fear I might be too old then for a loan for a place I'd be proud to own. Perhaps I should just indulge the 11 year old me and build a cottage under a large tree in the woods.
I've started to wonder how the average person in Kuala Lumpur affords a house or if they are just left dreaming of it. Inflation rates are rising parabolically with the price of essential goods and taxes being notched up repeatedly. Everyone's upset that the new annual budget has cooking oil added to the list. Earlier today a colleague complained that the price of baking ingredients have gone up so much that she's had to cut down on her home baking. What's sad about this is that baking is her bonding with her kids. Also, she's probably not going to bring her baked goods around the office as much. ;)
