Looking West from the Moine Mhor

I was in Mid Argyll today and at one stage, on my way to Kilmartin to chair a landowners and farmers meeting, I crossed the Crinan Canal at Bellanoch.

From the Islandadd Bridge just beyond the canal  the views are spectacular.

To the east lies the Moine Mhor, a National Nature Reserve protecting a raised bog where I took part in a photographic exhibition with some local school pupils several years ago.   Across the peat land sits the rock of Dunadd, the cradle of Scotland.

To the west - which is the view in the picture -  lies Crinan Ferry, and  beyond the coastal hills the distinctive shapes of the mountains on the island of Jura are clearly visible.

This whole area is  amazingly rich in history and the museum at Kilmartin helps to promote and interpret the unique landscape , which is also a working landscape with farming much to the fore .
