The Basingstoke Canal

Completed in 1794 the Basingstoke Canal wasn't a comercial success and by 1950 was mostly derelict.

Gladly the good people of Surrey and Hampshire decided to reclaim it in 1977. By 1991 it was ready to be re-opened. Good thing too! It's a brilliant place to walk, paddle your canoe and float your boat!
