How America Votes
This is where we voted today.
The Knights of Columbus on Park Avenue, within a 1/10th of a mile from where I was born, the church where I was baptized, and a stone's throw from the abandoned shoe factory where my grandmother made her first dollars after fleeing persecution during the Armenian Genocide.
Like many Americans, we vote in places like this, in the gymnasiums of public schools, and anywhere where parking is ample, access is compliant, and BINGO is not in session.
When I was young, this KoC was a grocery store. The entry way is still the same, and I'm pretty sure the floors are the original. It was a surreal experience.
With how controversial this election has been, I found it ironic to be voting in a building named for Christopher Columbus. What a perfect fit!
The election is close, the news stations are guarded, and I am curious if they opened the KoC bar for Happy Hour.
With our political climate, it's entirely possible.
