'My heart for thine'

Discovered a beautiful Victorian hand-made Valentine's Day card today whilst putting things on ebay.

It has in tiny text at the bottom 'My heart for thine'.

It is blank, which makes me think there is a story behind it...why would someone buy/make such a beautiful card to have it left un-written. A love story lost perhaps.
