Scottish Victoria Plums
The Plum Fairy came round today......
Our plum tree sadly will give no fruit this year because after a very warm spell early in the year, which encouraged budding on the tree, we had a sharp frost one night which killed all the buds and flowers, therefore no fruit.
However, we have a friend with a plum tree. Her late husband planted it some years ago after seeing ours, and there was always great competition and hilarity at the harvesting time, with each trying to outdo the other. Sadly, Edwin is no longer with us, but his wife popped round with some plums for us. She mentioned that the plum tree was getting huge and needed to be trimmed, so the Head Gardener did his good deed of the day and pruned it, after picking the remaining plums which were too high for her to reach. He's a gem!!!!
So we are able to enjoy plums at harvest this year also. Won't make anything, we will just eat them!!!! I think because they take time to mature in our not so sunny climate, their taste is more intense, the best plums ever.
Weather has been wet this morning, but it looks like the afternoon will be better.
Enjoy the weekend, folks
