BUILDING RECORD: Successful World Record in Scarborough. Where 681 sand castles were build in one hour.
Residents and visitors of Scarborough took part in a Sand Castle Guinness World Record attempt yesterday (Friday 17th Aug 2012) on Scarborough's South Bay Beach.
The record attempts aim was to build the most sand-castles on a beach in one hour, and help promote 'A Coast to Boast About' initiative (Yorkshire Water). The aim is to make Yorkshire's beaches the best in Europe.
Background: Over a 1000 sand-castles, measuring two foot high and two foot wide, with a turret on top, must be constructed within the hour for the Guinness World Record to be broken.
All sand-castle's must be standing for 60 minutes after the hour is up for them to be included in the official count.
