Farewell Leonard Cohen

I woke at 4.20 this morning.  It happens; probably too often.  At these times, I have the habit of checking my iPad on the state of the world.  This morning I read the news that Leonard Cohen had passed away.  I knew sleep would not return - something important had gone.

I went up to the workroom to confirm the news.  I logged on to a fans website where others shared their grief.  I wrote :

At the moment, the voice of sadness is strong and will be respected. It will be heard. But in that mix of emotions we call grief, there are the quieter sounds of joy and gratitude. They will come through.

Leonard Cohen left so much and it will not die. The beauty in his words and music transcends the mortality of human life. The humility and grace of their performance remains with us.

Rest in peace, Leonard Cohen. Long live the work.

And the sun came up.  As it will always do, even in these times of sadness.
