A foxglove in Stroud Museum's new Walled Garden
Camilla phoned me this morning to say that she was going to do a stint as a guide in the newly restored Walled Garden at the Museum in the Park. It was a beautiful day and I thought i'd follow her suggestion of joining her to have a look around under her guidance.
The museum which first opened in 1900, was moved to the Mansion house of Stratford Park in 2001 and has been a huge success there. Behind the mansion was an old walled garden which had fallen into disrepair ages ago. Following fundraising a project began to open the garden up and to create a new innovative study space within its walls. These building works were finished by the beginning of this year and then the transformation of the ground within the walls began.
Helena and UI love what they have achieved and now Camilla is also one of the Friends who will show visiotrs around and explain what is on offer. Today there was a group from a charity which brings people with dementia out into the community and lets them explore the grounds of not only the walled garden but also the rest of Stratford Park.
When I arrived Camilla was busy talking and when she had a moment she mentioned that there was a foxglove in flower, and she took me to see it. The plants have all been relocated from other gardens within the last couple of months and the landscape looks wonderful with all the transplanted established plants.
I thought the foxglove would be a suitable and very colourful image for the Flower Friday challenge. So thanks to whomever is organising Flower Friday 11.
